MH370: Another pulse signal detected on Sunday

PERTH, April 6 (Bernama) — Another pulse signal was detected in the southern Indian Ocean today by Australian Defence Vessel (ADV) Ocean Shield while searching for the missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370.

Earlier a Chinese ship, Haixun 01, detected two short pulse signals also known as acoustic signal 36 hours ago on Friday and in the afternoon on
Saturday.

Joint Agency Coordination Centre (JACC) chief coordinator, Angus Houston said up till now there was no verification whether to discount or to confirm the finding as the investigation was ongoing.

"HMS Echo is on its way to Haixun 01 ship area while Ocean Shield is investigating the signal using underwater equipment," he told a press conference here today.
He said the location between Haixun 01 and Ocean Shield is about 300 nautical miles.

Houston described the Ocean Shield as the best ship for the task as it was equipped with towed pinger and remotely operated underwater vehicle.

He, however, cautioned the verification of the signals could take several days and pointed out that search could be painstaking as the depth of the ocean in the area was about 4.5 km as well as other challenges.

Beijing-bound MH370 with 239 people on board vanished mid-flight over the South China Sea, about an hour into its flight from Kuala Lumpur on March 8.

Analysis of satellite data later pointed to the flight having ended in the southern Indian Ocean.

Search for MH370 intensified to confirm pulse signal

PERTH, April 6 (Bernama) — The search for the missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370 has been intensified in the southern Indian Ocean after a Chinese ship had detected a pulse signal probably from the aircraft's black box as its disappearance entered its 30th day.

On Saturday, Haixun 01 picked up the signals with a frequency of 37.5 kHz.

The Joint Agency Coordination Centre (JACC), in a statement, today said a total of 10 military planes, two civil planes and 13 ships would assist in Sunday's search for MH370.

It said the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) had three separate search areas planned for today covering an area about 2,000 kilometres north west of Perth, with a total of approximately 216,000 square kilometres.

"Weather in the search area is expected to be good with a cloud base of 2,500 feet and visibility greater than 10 kilometres," said JACC.

No verification detected pulse signal from MH370 – JACC

PERTH: As the search for a missing Malaysian airliner entered its 30th day Sunday, the Australian Joint Agency Coordination Centre (JACC) said it could not as yet confirm that a pulse signal detected in the southern Indian Ocean by a Chinese vessel came from the Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight, MH370.

JACC chief coordinator Air Chief Marshal (Rtd) Angus Houston said the electronic pulse signal reportedly detected by Haixun 01 "could not be verified at this point of time".

"I have been advised that a series of sounds have been detected by a Chinese ship in the search area.

"The characteristics reported are consistent with an aircraft black box," he said in a statement.

He also said that a number of white objects were also reportedly sighted on the surface of the sea about 90 kilometres from where the signal was detected. "However, there is no confirmation at this stage that the signal and the objects are related to the missing aircraft," he said.

Houston said he would provide updates if, and when, more information became available.

Flight MH370, carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew, left the KL International Airport at 12.41 am on March 8 and disappeared from radar screens about an hour later, while over the South China Sea. It was to have arrived in Beijing at 6.30am on the same day.

A multinational search was mounted for the aircraft, first in the South China Sea and then, after it was learned that the plane had veered off course, along two corridors – the northern corridor stretching from the border of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to northern Thailand, and the southern corridor, from Indonesia to the southern Indian Ocean.

Following an unprecedented type of analysis of satellite data, United Kingdom satellite telecommunications company Inmarsat and the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) concluded that Flight MH370 flew along the southern corridor and that its last position was in the middle of the Indian Ocean, west of Perth, Australia.

Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak then announced on March 24, seventeen days after the disappearance of the Boeing 777-200ER aircraft, that the flight path of Flight MH370 "ended in the southern Indian Ocean".-Bernama

28 more Rukun Tetangga to be set up in Sabah

by Alen Kee. Posted on April 6, 2014, Sunday

TAWAU: The Rukun Tetangga (RT or Neighbourhood Watch) needs new ideas to bring about a RT transformation concept in line with the changes in social communities today.

Deputy Minister of Education 1, Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching said she is confident that the Department of National Unity and Integrity of Malaysia (JPNIN) will always come up with new ideas to highlight concepts or working culture and RT management that are much better and efficient.

She said JPNIN had many plans that are balance towards the community and this proved the department had carried out the responsibility that was entrusted to it.

Mary said the RT concept has been in existence for a long time with the aim to encourage unity and cooperation among the community through programs that were held.

She praised the JPNIN Tawau branch and the Tawau and Kunak district RT for their high commitment in making the RT rally yesterday a success at Tawau Sports Complex multi purpose hall.

Mary also welcomed networking cooperation among JPNIN with other departments or agencies at state level for the well-being of residents.

She also recommended that the Volunteer Patrol Scheme (SRS) under the RT committee be continued at each respective RT areas to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.

"SRS should continue to improve and strengthen the spirit of cooperation and unity to face any threat that could undermine the well-being of the local people," she said.

She said with the formation of more RT committees, it is hoped that the community could be inspired to work harder, especially in ensuring unity and harmony.

There are 626 RT in Sabah with 214 SRS. In Tawau there are 38 RT with 16 having SRS and 23 more new RT targeted to be formed, while Kunak has 10 RT with 2 SRS and 5 targeted RT to be formed.

This brings to 28 the total number of new RT to be formed.
