Posted: 26 May 2014 05:56 PM PDT CORK, May 27 — Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are reportedly "honeymooning in Cork". The couple are said to have flown by private jet from Florence to Ireland on Sunday for the start of their "secret romantic honeymoon", according to UK newspaper The Mirror. The couple apparently landed at Cork Airport at 3pm and were whisked off in a fleet of Mercedes limousines, to stay for five days at the luxurious Castylemartyr Resort in Munster. The Presidential suite at the 17th-century Manor House costs €2,750 (RM8,828) for a night, a spokeswoman told the Irish Mirror, adding that and all ten rooms in the 7th-century Manor House have been booked up. If Kim and Kanye are indeed staying there, the trip would cost them up to €50,000 for the hotel alone. The Presidential suite will no doubt be up to the couple's A-List standards, boasting two bedrooms, a dining room, living room and its own library over 3,000 sq ft. The newlyweds are also apparently planning to spend at least a day in Dublin, one of Kanye's favourite cities, before jetting back to Los Angeles on Friday. Kanye and Kim tied the knot at a highly-exclusive private ceremony at the Forte di Belvedere o di San Giorgio Firenze in Florence on Saturday night. The rapper gave a long, 18-minute toast where he declared himself part of the Kardashian clan and complimented the family for their achievements. At one point, Kanye referred to them as an "industry" and said they are "the most remarkable people of our time" who can "make the world a better place", according to E! News. — Cover Media |
Back to business after tennis for Sharapova and Williams Posted: 26 May 2014 05:54 PM PDT PARIS, May 27 — Former champion Maria Sharapova says she draws inspiration from the longevity of Venus Williams and the two superstars are also looking ahead to the business field when it comes time to hang up their rackets. Russian former world number one and 2012 Roland Garros champion Sharapova says she takes heart that Venus is still competing at the highest level despite being the second oldest woman in the draw at 33. "Yeah, of course, it's very inspirational, and to have the desire and the fight to get up in the morning to want to compete and do this and continue doing it, knowing how tough it is and to keep that level over and over again," said the 27-year-old Florida resident. "But on the other hand, she's been so successful, you know, and that feeling of winning the big titles is so special. "I'm sure she's not just here to walk around the grounds. I'm sure she wants that feeling back, because there is really nothing like it. But, it's definitely inspirational." Venus could meet sister and defending champion Serena in the third round with Sharapova a potential quarter-final opponent. However, with her career winding down, Venus is looking ahead to life off the court and has already designed her own EleVen brand sports clothing. "I'm in business school. I have like four classes. I'm at Indiana University East. I had to take some time off because my health went down,"added Williams whose playing career was halted by Sjogren's Syndrome in 2011. "So now I'm back and I'm going to close it out, you know, like you're at 5-1 in the third." Sharapova, meanwhile, revealed her idea of starting up a brand of sweets has now reaped great rewards. "Well, I thought it might be a stupid idea in the beginning, but it's turned out to be one of the smartest things I've done," she said about the sweets known as 'Sugarpova'. "It started off as a creative something that I thought I would eventually, do down the line when I'm finished with my career, would be able to build and grow, but I wanted to start building during my career. — AFP |
Mary Lynn Rajskub amazed at 24 return Posted: 26 May 2014 05:52 PM PDT NEW YORK, May 27 — Mary Lynn Rajskub didn't think another series of 24 would happen. The American actress plays computer hack Chloe O'Brian in the hit crime series, but thought when series eight wrapped in 2010 that was the end of the show. After a four-year break 24 is back, delighting TV audiences, and Mary is relishing the chance to play her onscreen alter ego once again. "I never thought we'd do a series of 24 again. We believed there would be a movie and there was a lot of hype, but then it didn't happen and I went back to doing stand-up comedy. I got into the swing of that again and then they announced [a new series]. I was like, 'I guess we're back,'" she laughed to British magazine Grazia. Getting to join forces with Kiefer Sutherland was a massive draw for Mary, who loves working with the action star. Kiefer's turn as the show's hero Jack Bauer has amassed a worldwide audience of adoring fans, but Mary admits that off screen he's not as intense. Instead of saving the world, Kiefer is actually enjoying London life, which is the city the latest season of 24 is set in. "Working with Kiefer is brilliant fun. I'm more the elusive one. He's living in Mayfair and enjoying the London nightlife, while I've barely been out. Kiefer is pretty hilarious. There are two sides to him. Once he's in the mode of Jack Bauer on set he's super-intense, but in between he can be really silly," she smiled. On the subject of the season's conclusion, Mary remained coy on what was in store for the characters. Working on such a popular show has taught the 42-year-old actress to keep her cards close to her chest at all times. "I don't get the scripts for the entire series, so I still don't know whether Chloe will survive. I hope she doesn't die but it's very much a possibility with this show. There are always casualties. "We're still filming episode ten, so I have two more episodes to survive to make it to the end. "I'm very good at keeping the plotlines a secret - you have to be with 24," she exclaimed. — Cover Media |
Rob Kardashian’s bizarre Twitter behaviour Posted: 26 May 2014 05:47 PM PDT NEW YORK, May 27 — Rob Kardashian has erased his entire Twitter history. The drastic move took place yesterday, just days after he bailed on sister Kim's wedding to Kanye West over the weekend. Rob has amassed nearly five million followers since joining the micro-blogging site in 2009 and it appears he desires to start anew on the platform. His first tweet since deleting the whole of his Twitter history was in observance of Memorial Day, a holiday that honours military veterans. "happy memorial day (sic)" the message read. The sock designer then went on to further express his gratitude for men and women in the military by writing tweets with a strong biblical tone. "Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD. Psalm 33:12," Rob wrote. "Lord Jesus, protect those who protect me- police, firefighters, and those in the military. Teach me to pray for them and to honour them for their service. Amen. GOD BLESS AMERICA" His sixth and final tweet of the day came from an entirely different angle. Rob made it a point to give a shout-out to his older sister Kourtney's partner of seven years, Scott Disick. "Happy Birthday @ScottDisick! Love You Brother!" the reality star wrote attaching a picture of himself with Scott padding in crystal blue water at an unknown tropical location. Rob was in Florence with the rest of the Kardashian clan for Kim and Kanye's wedding, but he reportedly flew back to the US in tears on Friday night after a massive fight with his family. Rob is said to have skipped Kim's wedding because he was worried about taking photos after gaining a significant amount of weight in recent months. — Cover Media |
Brazil’s private jet fleet to double for World Cup Posted: 26 May 2014 05:46 PM PDT RIO DE JANEIRO, May 27 — The number of private jets operating in Brazil will nearly double during the World Cup, with more than 700 expected to arrive from overseas, the Valor business daily said yesterday. Leonardo Fiuza, the head of TAM Business Aviation, told the newspaper Brazil was expecting more business executives, politicians, royalty and wealthy tourists to fly in on private jets than at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The 700 private jets that descended on South Africa caused chaos during the tournament when some of them clogged the tarmac at the main airport in Durban before the semi-final match between Spain and Germany. Their pilots refused to move them, causing hundreds of fans to miss the match as commercial flights were delayed or forced to turn back. The Brazilian government, seeking to avoid a repeat, has developed a strict operational plan for take-off, landing and parking at the country's airports, said Valor. — AFP |
Asian stock index swings between gains, losses near 2014 high Posted: 26 May 2014 05:40 PM PDT HONG KONG, May 27 — Asian stocks swung between gains and losses, after the regional benchmark index closed yesterday at the highest level this year, as raw-material producers rose while utilities slipped. The MSCI Asia Pacific Index added less than 0.1 per cent to 141.49 as of 9:03 am in Tokyo, before markets opened in Hong Kong and China. The gauge rebounded 8.7 per cent through yesterday from this year's low in February amid optimism the US economy can withstand a reduction in Federal Reserve stimulus and that Chinese policy makers will step in to bolster slowing growth. "We still have a slowing China story out there and I think the government will have to try and provide a bit of support to keep things stable," Mark Lister, head of private wealth research at Craigs Investment Partners Ltd in Wellington, which has about US$6.8 billion (RM21.8 billion) under management, said by phone. "People are starting to feel good about the US and the Fed's approach to tapering is as it should be." China Premier Li Keqiang's comments last week that the nation will fine-tune policy when needed showed a significant change in his tone, and may lead to incremental stimulus such as looser borrowing conditions and support for the property industry, Goldman Sachs Group Inc economists led by Yu Song wrote in a note dated yesterday. Japan's Topix index added 0.1 per cent as the yen was little changed at 101.92 per dollar, holding near a 1 1/2-week low. South Korea's Kospi index and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 Index also gained 0.1 per cent, while New Zealand's NZX 50 Index slid 0.1 per cent. Hong Kong futures Futures on Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index advanced 0.1 per cent and contracts on the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index of mainland companies traded in the city added 0.2 per cent in the most recent trading sessions. China State Construction Engineering Corp, the nation's biggest builder by market value, yesterday said it plans to raise as much as 30 billion yuan (RM15.4 billion) selling preferred shares to boost working capital for infrastructure projects. Futures on the Standard & Poor's 500 Index gained 0.3 per cent from last week, with markets set to reopen after yesterday's holiday. The S&P 500 closed at a record high May 23. The Asia-Pacific gauge advanced 3 per cent this month through yesterday as US and Chinese manufacturing gauges beat estimates and a weaker yen boosted Japanese equities. That left the measure trading at 12.9 times estimated earnings yesterday, compared with 16.1 for the S&P 500 and 15.3 for the Stoxx Europe 600 Index, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. — Bloomberg |
