Posted: 31 Jan 2014 03:45 PM PST KUCHING: Driver escape from van when discovered smoke, then the van caught fire. The whole van became scrap metal before firefighters arrive. This incident occurred around 8.30am near Petronas gas station located at Green Height. The driver of the van is a Chinese male above 40 years old. During the incident, the van was heading the direction 4 and half mile, before the entrance of Petronas gas station, the driver discovered smoke came out under the car, and quickly stop beside the road to investigate. The van start burning shortly after the driver left. The public passed by and the gas station staff immediately notify the fire department. When the firefighters arrived to the scene, the entire van have caught fire, the fire was only put out nearly after 10 minutes and the van had became scrap metal. Warehouse caught fire caused by lantern Posted: 31 Jan 2014 03:43 PM PST MIRI: The fire accident was suspected caused by falling lantern on the roof of a warehouse within the factory, fortunately the security guard discovered the incident and called the fire department to take out the fire before it caused major property damage. The incident happened 8p.m last night at a factory's warehouse located at Piasau. At that time, the company's security guard discovered a lantern slowly falling down the the roof top of the warehouse, and soon found fire on the warehouse roof top. Due to the high of the roof, the security guard was not able to extinguish the fire, and immediately notify the fire department for assistance. Right after the fire department received the report, 3 fire engines and 15 firefighters were sent to the scene to extinguish the fire. The fire was controlled after 10 minutes, but the warehouse was filled with smoke, the firefighters left after they determined that there was no more flame. State police gambling raid in Bintulu Posted: 31 Jan 2014 03:40 PM PST KUCHING: During chinese new year, gambling activity raid operations carry out by the police department, Kuching state police D7 group flew into Bintulu to raid a temporary gambling den, succesfully arrested 19 people, confiscated 92,000 ringgit cash and gambling equipment. The group of policeman under the supervise of assistant inspector raidded the den around 9.30p.m 2 days ago. Detained 19 people, including 6 women, where 3 is from China, with another guy from China. Gambles were later escorted to Bintulu police station to pass to Bintulu police department to handle. They were expected to be release on bail, and wait for the police charges against them in court. The police will investigate the case under the Betting Act 1953, gambling in public places. Girl slashed to death by father laid to rest Posted: 31 Jan 2014 11:04 AM PST BANGI: The girl who was slashed to death by her father in an incident at Section 4, Bandar Baru Bangi, here yesterday, was laid to rest at Sungai Tangkas Muslim cemetery here Friday. Earlier, the body of the seven-year-old girl was cleaned and bathed at the Serdang Hospital, before being brought to Surau Al-Kauthar for prayer. The girl's mother and relatives, when met at the cemetery, refused any comment. In the incident yesterday, the 44-year-old man, who has been unemployed over the past two years, was believed to have slashed his youngest daughter, and caused severe injuries to her two sisters at their family home before fleeing the scene. He was found in a depressed condition and wet at a nearby riverbank behind a housing estate more than an hour later. Posted on February 1, 2014, Saturday STOCKHOLM: The four children of the Malaysian couple who were detained by the Swedish authorities for hitting the hand of their youngest son for refusing to perform the prayer, returned to Malaysia on Friday morning. The four siblings – Aishah (14 years old), Ammar, 12, Adam, 11, and Arif, 7, departed for Malaysia at 6.30am local time together with Malaysian Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin, as well as a special officer of the deputy minister and a relative of the four children. Hamzah told Bernama by telephone before leaving that they were expected to arrive in Malaysia tomorrow. Malaysian Ambassador to Sweden, Datuk Badruddin Ab Rahman, had sent them off at the airport here. Meanwhile on Thursday, the prosecutor had obtained a court order to extend the detention of the children's father, Azizul Raheem Awalludin, a Tourism Malaysia official, for another 11 days up to Feb 10, to assist in the investigation on the alleged hitting on the child's hand. The court issued the order to enable the prosecution represented by Anna Arnelle, to continue the investigation on the case. It is learnt that the same court would sit on Friday to decide on the remand detention on Azizul's wife, Shalwati Norshal, a teacher who is on no-pay leave. Azizul and Shalwati had been remanded since Dec 18 and the remand order had been extended thrice. There is no limit on the duration of the remand order in Sweden. Following the detention, their children had been separated from them for 42 days. The four siblings had been looked after by a non-Muslim family appointed by the Swedish authorities. On Thursday, after being separated from their parents for 42 days, the four children were taken to meet their relatives from Malaysia. Malaysian soccer legend Wong Choon Wah dies Posted: 31 Jan 2014 11:02 AM PST KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia lost another legendary football player when former national midfielder Wong Choong Wah passed away due to a heart attack Thursday morning. The death of Wong at age 67 is all the more saddening as today is the first day of the Chinese New Year. His contemporary Datuk Soh Chin Aun, also a household name in local and regional football, said he found out about Wong's death from Wong's wife. He said Wong's wife said he suffered a heart attack at home in Sri Petaling here and was rushed to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital at 3 am. "I'm very shocked, because Wong still used to send SMS greetings to me and other friends during Chinese New Year. However, this time I was a bit surprised to receive the greeting from him early yesterday," he said when contacted by Bernama here. Soh said he was informed that for now only Wong's closest family members are allowed to pay their last respects to Wong whose body has been temporarily placed at the Kwang Tong funeral complex in Sungai Besi here. He is expected to be laid to rest on next Monday. Wong was one of the earliest Malaysian football players to turn professional. He started his professional career with South China Club in Hong Kong where he played from 1972 to 1974. He was also a member of the national football squad that competed in the Munich Olympics in Germany in 1972. Wong was also a main pillar of the Selangor team who were difficult to beat in the local leagues in the 70s and 80s. In his heyday, he was a midfield maestro who was highly regarded by players, coaches and officials alike. Other illustrious local players who have passed on include goalkeepr Datuk R.
