Mourinho branded Wenger a "specialist in failure" in the second of his two spells at Chelsea ― one of numerous barbs he has launched at the Frenchman ― and he revisited the theme ahead of their reunion.

Indirectly citing the 12 years that have elapsed since Wenger won his third Premier League title with Arsenal, Mourinho claimed he was not afforded the same respect despite having last won the league in 2015.

"Tomorrow, I think between the two managers we are speaking about, I think (there are) six or seven Premier League titles. I have three, he has three or four," Mourinho told Friday's pre-match press conference.

"Does that mean we should be respected, even in periods where our results are not the best? I think Mr Wenger has that respect from all of you. I don't think I have.

"Especially because my last Premier League title was 18 months ago, not 18 years ago. I don't think I get that respect."

Sparks often fly when the pair have to share a touchline, typified by their notorious shoving match during a Chelsea-Arsenal fixture at Stamford Bridge two years ago.

Wenger has never beaten Mourinho in the league and has not overseen a league victory at Old Trafford since a solitary Emmanuel Adebayor strike gave Arsenal the points in September 2006.

But with Arsenal six points above United in fourth place, it is Wenger who currently enjoys the upper hand and he dismissed suggestions Mourinho has some kind of hold over him.

"You know, we didn't lose always," said the Arsenal manager, whose side will provisionally top the Premier League table and leave United nine points behind them if they win.

"We have beaten them and there were many draws as well. I think I have won against every manager in the world during my 20 years here and I do not make this game a competition between two managers.

"It's between two clubs and two teams. I can understand that people want to create controversy, but it's not that that makes the audience."

Rashford chance

Wenger will make a late call on the fitness of Alexis Sanchez, who did not report back from international duty with Chile until Friday.

Sanchez scored twice for Chile in a 3-1 World Cup qualifying win over Uruguay on Tuesday, despite Wenger warning beforehand it would be "suicidal" for him to play due to a hamstring problem.

Arsenal will definitely be without right-back Hector Bellerin and central midfielder Santi Cazorla, who have ankle and Achilles problems respectively.

Wenger's selection problems pale by comparison beside those troubling Mourinho, whose side have won just two of their last eight league fixtures.

Centre-backs Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling will miss the game through injury, along with suspended top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and there are doubts over Antonio Valencia, Luke Shaw and Marouane Fellaini.

But Mourinho has declared Wayne Rooney fit, after he withdrew from England duty with a minor knee injury.

Obliged to apologise after being pictured looking the worse for wear as he mingled with guests at a wedding party at the England team hotel last weekend, Rooney is expected to start on the bench.

With Rooney doubtful and Ibrahimovic banned, 19-year-old Marcus Rashford could make a rare start up front, nine months after inspiring United to a 3-2 win over Arsenal on a storming Premier League debut.

"The man who killed us last year was Marcus Rashford," Wenger recalled this week. "He took us completely by surprise."

Arsenal have not lost away from home in the league since and should they end their 10-year wait for league success at Old Trafford, Wenger will leave a sizeable dent in Mourinho's title ambitions. ― AFP

Over 500 people have already gathered at Bangsar LRT station, the main meeting point before protesters march to Dataran Merdeka here.

"I miss her, but Maria may not be here physically, but she is here in spirit," Ambiga told the crowd of yellow.

"We are all Maria, Mandeep, and all those who have been arrested. We go on, we go on," added the former head of polls reform group, Bersih 2.0.

Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah and steering committee member Mandeep Singh were among some nine activists arrested last night.

The crowd at Bangsar chanted "Bersih, Bersih", as Ambiga addressed them.

Bersih 5 is pushing for free and fair elections, a clean government and a stronger democracy. The pro-government Red Shirts movement is holding a counter rally.

Andy Murray in a hurry to keep up with big brother Jamie

Younger sibling Andy crushed Switzerland's world number three Stan Wawrinka 6-4 6-2 to top his group and stay on course for a season-ending finale against Novak Djokovic.

Shortly before taking to the O2 Arena court, it was also confirmed that Jamie Murray and Brazilian partner Bruno Soares would end the year as the world's top-ranked duo, courtesy of a defeat for rivals Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

Jamie has made a habit of beating his higher-profile brother to milestones.

He won a grand slam title ― the 2007 Wimbledon mixed doubles ― five years before Andy won the US Open.

Jamie reached number one in the ATP doubles rankings in April, seven months before Andy hit the singles summit.

Now he has clinched the year-end top spot for the first time with Soares, a few days before Andy can match him and confirm he is the top dog in men's tennis.

Jamie could also beat his brother to the ATP World Tour title as the doubles final on Sunday is the warm-up act for the singles.

"Regardless of what happens over the weekend, we can look back on this year and be very proud of what we've done as a family," said triple grand slam champion Andy.

It looks odds-on that Murray junior will meet Serb Djokovic in the final when not just the title but the year-end number one ranking would be up for grabs.

Djokovic, who faces Kei Nishikori in his semi-final on Saturday, cranked up the pressure on Thursday by trouncing David Goffin in his final group match, edging just ahead of Murray on points.

Murray faced a far trickier task against US Open champion Wawrinka. After weathering an early storm, he won with something to spare to extend his winning streak to 22 matches and set up a semi-final against Canadian Milos Raonic.

A straight-sets defeat could have eliminated Murray and he knew that simply winning a set would earn a semi-final spot.

Mangled rackets

Wawrinka, still harbouring hopes of reaching the semis for a fourth year running, began aggressively but a netted volley in the seventh game handed Murray the first break.

The Scot failed to convert three set points at 5-3 but was dominating the match by then and held in the next game.

After spending three hours 20 minutes grinding past Nishikori on Wednesday, Murray was not keen on more overtime and broke twice to romp through the second set ― Wawrinka mangling two rackets as his hopes faded.

"The first set was tight, there weren't many chances," he said. "The second I had already qualified and Stan needed to win so it was a bit easier for me to play freely."

Murray's winning streak equals his run earlier this year. Two more victories would deliver his maiden ATP World Tour Finals title while depriving Djokovic of a sixth, and the season-ending top spot.

First, he must get past Raonic for the third time in a major clash in London this year, having beaten him in the final at both Queen's Club and Wimbledon in the summer.

"I'm certainly not taking anything for granted. I know it will be hard," said Murray whose brilliant late-season run has landed him four consecutive titles.

Round robin play concluded later as already-eliminated Croatian Marin Cilic warmed up for next week's Davis Cup final against Argentina by beating a tiring Nishikori 3-6 6-2 6-3.

It was his first win in six matches at the tournament and the 200 ranking points he earned means he will move above Gael Monfils to a career-high six. ― Reuters
