Sri Sanjeevan pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate's Court here today on a charge for blackmail three years ago. Sanjeevan, 32, was charged with blackmailing businessman Chan Leong Kwan, 40, for RM1,500 or the victim would not be able to conduct his business.

The offence allegedly took place at 9.45 pm on July 1 2013 at premises number 25-27-29 on the first floor of Jalan Dagangan 8, Triang Business Centre in Bera, near here.

The victim made a police report on Aug 16, 2013. The prosecution was conducted by prosecution officer Inspector K. Kishornath under Section 384 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years' imprisonment, or fine, or whipping upon conviction.

Counsel Ravin Jay, who represented the accused, appealed for the bail of RM7,000 proposed by the prosecution to be reduced as it was considered too high.

"The bail is only to secure the attendance of the accused for trial. I assured the accused will not abscond as he has two more charges in Seremban courts," he said.

Magistrate Najwa Hashim set bail at RM3,000 in one surety and fixed Sept 7 as remention for case management.

On July 19, Sanjeevan pleaded not guilty at the Seremban Session's Court and Magistrate's Court in Negeri Sembilan for employing illegal foreigner workers and blackmail.

Meanwhile, Sanjeevan after settling bail at 12 noon, said he would be holding a media conference on his detention on Tuesday in Kuala Lumpur. — Bernama

Bayern, Dortmund in German Super Cup showdown

The showdown between German league and cup champions Bayern and last season's runners-up Dortmund, who finished second to the Bavarians in both competitions, has plenty of added spice a fortnight before the start of the Bundesliga season.

Germany centreback Hummels, Dortmund's captain last season, can expect an uncomfortable return to Borussia's sold-out Signal Iduna Park having signed a five-year deal in May to rejoin Bayern, the club he left in 2008.

"There will certainly be some people who won't give me a warm welcome," admits Hummels.

"It's understandable, but I will always cherish my time there, even if I am booed there for the next 15 times in a row."

Hummels expects "very loud background noise" and failed to help matters by admitting he moved to Bayern to join "one of the three best teams in the world" — something Dortmund can not claim to be.

But Bayern striker Thomas Mueller says Dortmund fans should not whistle Hummels, who helped the team to the 2011 and 2012 league titles, making 225 league appearances.

"Mats doesn't give the impression that he's scared and whether he is welcomed or jeered won't influence us," said Mueller.

"Any boos would be ridiculous, as far as I am concerned. Mats was a leading figure in a lot of success for Dortmund, they could show a bit of gratitude."

Likewise, Goetze will have a point to prove in his first competitive game back in the black and yellow Dortmund shirt after three frustrating seasons at Bayern, spent mainly on the bench or injured.

Battle for prestige

"When the interest from Borussia Dortmund came, I quickly decided to return," said Germany's World Cup-winner, a product of the Dortmund academy.

"Now begins a new chapter for me. I really want to play my best football again and to reply to each and every critic with my performances."

Dortmund have won the Super Cup five times, Bayern on four occasions, and Mueller says the Bavarians are eager to get their hands on the trophy after defeats on their last three attempts.

Borussia will return to the Champions League this season after a year's absence and have splashed out a reported €109.8 million (RM492.78 million) on eight new signings.

Having sold Hummels to Bayern, Ilkay Gundogan to Manchester City and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Manchester United, Dortmund spent big.

They have recruited Goetze, Germany winger Andre Schuerrle, Barcelona defender Marc Bartra, Portugal defender Raphael Guerreiro and exciting teenage French winger Ousmane Dembele amongst others.

Dortmund lost their last pre-season friendly 1-0 to Athletico Bilbao in Switzerland on Tuesday.

The defeat prompted coach Thomas Tuchel to ask fans "not to expect too much from Sunday," but the hosts will want to win their third German Super Cup title in four years.

Bayern will not be at full strength, missing injured stars Jerome Boateng, new-signing Renato Sanches and Arjen Robben as Carlo Ancelotti bids for his first trophy since succeeding Pep Guardiola as head coach.

"This is a title we haven't won for three years and it's always special against Borussia Dortmund, for us and the fans," said Mueller.

"This is about prestige." — AFP

Naked rooftop bar opens in London (VIDEO)

LONDON, Aug 13 — London seems to have chosen the summer of 2016 to let it all hang out, with yet another naked pop-up project inviting locals to don their birthday suit, this time on a rooftop bar in the middle of the city.

Following the lead of pop-up restaurant The Bunyadi which opened in London in May and made headlines around the world, Now TV has installed a rooftop bar 60 feet (about 20m) in the air, overlooking Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, The London Eye and Westminster Abbey.

Promotional photos of the installation reveal an open-air sun terrace decorated with sun-loungers, a swingball, and trampolines — for the truly uninhibited.

Organisers of the rooftop bar are capitalising on the runaway popularity of The Bunyadi, which drew more than 46,000 people to its waitlist.

Like its name, which means "fundamental," base" and "natural" in Hindi, the dining concept centred on returning to the basics; cellphones were banned, while dishes were made from organic ingredients, prepared without the use of electricity or gas.

Decor was also kept au naturel, with bamboo, wicker and wood furnishings.

The opening of the rooftop bar fills the void for those who couldn't attend the pop-up restaurant, which closed a month earlier than scheduled to prepare for a move across the Channel.

In response to high demand from the French, The Bunyadi will open a similar pop-up in Paris for a two-month run beginning in September.

In an interview with Country & Town House, founder Seb Lyall said he also plans to expand Bunyadi in London, with the opening of the city's first private members' club.

To visit the naked rooftop bar this summer, punters must pre-register by emailing comboterrace@taylorherring.com and include their name, age, and email address. Visitors must be over 18. — AFP- Relaxnews

Nadal, del Potro in Rio tennis semi-final blockbuster

Nadal quelled the fierce resistance of Brazilian number one Thomaz Bellucci 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the semi-finals of the singles where he will take on del Potro today.

Del Potro, the 2009 US Open champion who was pushed to the brink of retirement by years of wrist trouble, downed Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut 7-5, 7-6 (7/4).

The Argentine, who knocked out world number one Novak Djokovic in the first round, wept in his courtside chair at the end of the quarter-final in which he fired 42 winners.

Defending champion Andy Murray will face Japan's Kei Nishikori in the other semi-final.

In the women's singles, Monica Puig made today's final where she will play Germany's Angelique Kerber for the chance to win Puerto Rico's first Olympic gold medal.

Later yesterday, Nadal and childhood friend Marc Lopez beat Romania's Florin Mergea and Horia Tecau 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 in the men's doubles final to take the gold medal.

2008 champion Nadal joins Serena Williams, Venus Williams and Nicolas Massu as the only players to have won gold in Olympic singles and doubles.

"Being at the semi-finals is something that a few days ago I wouldn't even imagine," said Nadal, who is playing in his first tournament since the French Open two and half months ago where he suffered an injury to his left wrist.

"I don't even know how things are going so well because I didn't do any preparation for the tournament."

Del Potro, meanwhile, has seen his ranking slip from four in the world to 141 after undergoing three surgeries in recent years and missing large parts of the last two seasons.

"Every time I play here, the crowd makes me cry," said the 2012 bronze medallist who once again enjoyed the support of a legion of boisterous fans wearing Argentina football shirts.

Monfils wastes match points

Second seed Murray battled through a second successive three-setter to reach the semi-finals with a 6-0, 4-6, 7-6 (7/2) win over Steve Johnson of the United States.

Murray finished with 31 winners but also 36 unforced errors.

"I expected a tough match. The court is very lively, there's a lot of wind, so it makes it hard to play," said Murray.

He'll face Nishikori who saved three match points to defeat France's Gael Monfils 7-6 (7/4), 4-6, 7-6 (8/6). Monfils double-faulted on his second match point in the final set tie-breaker which he led 6/3 at one stage.

"I had nothing to lose from 6-3 down and I knew that my concentration wasn't there at the beginning of the tiebreak, so I tried to play a little more aggressive," said the Japanese star.

It was weirdly familiar for Monfils who squandered five match points against Nishikori in Miami.

Puig, 22, reached the women's final and is already guaranteed at least a silver — only her country's ninth Olympic medal.

She reached today's final by beating two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 in a rollercoaster match which featured 10 breaks of serve.

Puig, the world number 34, will face German second seed, and Australian Open champion, Angelique Kerber for the title.

Kerber downed American seventh seed Madison Keys 6-3, 7-5, reaching the final without dropping a set.

"It would be unbelievable to win the gold and it would be the biggest honour in the world," said world number 34 Puig.

"But the Olympics isn't about me, it's about Puerto Rico and I know how bad they want this."

Nadal had planned an assault on three golds in Rio but his gruelling schedule finally caught up with him and he decided to scratch from the mixed doubles with Garbine Muguruza.

Murray's hopes of a golden double were dashed when he and partner Heather Watson lost 6-4, 6-4 to Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna of India in the mixed doubles quarter-finals. — AFP
